Due to COVID-19, Henseler & Kocian has been forced to temporarily close. It is important now, more than ever, to practice good oral hygiene. Although we may not be sure exactly when our practice will be able to open its doors again, your smile is still our priority.

What You Can Do at Home

Continue to wear your elastics, aligners or retainers as prescribed by Dr. Henseler and Dr. Kocian. Be sure to wash your hands after placing rubber bands, aligners or retainers.

Running low on rubber bands? Do not worry! We are available for calls and can leave replacement bands out for you to pick up or mail them out to you.

Avoid Problematic Foods and Drinks

Due to the uncertainty of when you will be able to visit us in person again, it is especially important to handle your appliances with care. Avoid hard, sticky foods that could potentially break brackets. Skip or limit sugary beverages like sports drinks and soda. Water is best!

Many sugary drinks can lead to the decalcification (white marks or scars) on teeth.

Continue Daily Oral Routines

Remember to brush your teeth three times per day, floss once per day, and use your Act mouth rise once per day. When it is time to brush, start by brushing at the gum line at a 45-degree angle. After brushing the gum line, place the toothbrush on top of the brackets, angling down to brush on top of each bracket. Be sure to spend 3 minutes brushing! Visit our YouTube channel for more information.

For Patients Using Clear Aligners

Continue to wear your aligners as prescribed by Dr. Kocian and Dr. Henseler. Once you are finished with the group of aligners we provided, continue to wear the last aligners and give us a call to get more. If you were scheduled for a revision scan, please wear your last aligner nightly until we can get you in. If you were scheduled to begin aligner treatment, we will contact you as soon as we can to get you started on your new smile!

Will I Have My Braces For Longer Than Expected?

The toughest part about this interruption is the uncertainty of its duration. For most of you, the answer is no. Due to the modern wires and technology we are using, your treatment is actually progressing even if we cannot see you for a few months. We can assure you that we will do everything possible to keep your treatment on track once we are able to see you again.

I Was Scheduled to Finish With My Aligners Or Get My Braces Off

We are bummed, as we are sure you are, to have to postpone this exciting and long-awaited moment.

Once we have guidance from our state authorities that we can see patients for reasons other than emergencies again, we will. We are working to develop protocols now to ensure this process of removing attachments and braces is safe and effective once we are back. In the meantime, brush and floss thoroughly to maintain your fantastic smile!

We are really looking forward to celebrating your new smile with you as soon as humanly possible!
